Lehigh begins busy weekend vs. Holy Cross Friday night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh field hockey team looks to get back on track this weekend when the Mountain Hawks return home to host Holy Cross on Friday (7 p.m.) and Siena on Sunday (12 p.m.). Lehigh is coming off a back-and-forth 3-2 defeat at Georgetown, which saw the margin within one goal the entire game.
 
Live stats will be available for Friday's game against the Crusaders while Sunday's game will air on the Patriot League Network. The Hoyas took leads of 1-0 and 2-1 on Sunday, but the Mountain Hawks came back to tie the score on both occasions. Sophomore Teresa Carotenuto and senior Gabby Tofig provided the offense while the defense allowed just five shots on goal.
 
Carotenuto now leads the team with three goals and seven points this season. Freshman Paige Innarella has started the last three games in goal, owning a .636 save percentage.
 
Holy Cross enters Friday with a 5-3 record, including a 1-1 mark in Patriot League play. The Crusaders have won four of their last five games, most recently beating Colgate 2-1 in overtime, one game after defeating Fairfield in overtime, 4-3. Maureen Connolly leads the team in points with 22 behind nine goals and four assists while Emily Loprete owns 13 points (five goals, three assists). A pair of goalkeepers have split time this season, with Marcia LaPlante leading the way. She has recorded a 3.40 goals against average and .737 save percentage on the season, with a 4-1 record.
 
The Mountain Hawks have won five of the last seven meetings against Holy Cross to pull within 17-10 in the all-time series. Last season, Lehigh earned a 2-1 win at Holy Cross behind two goals from Carotenuto.
 
Siena will hit the field on Sunday for the first time in nine days, most recently falling at Vermont, 5-2. The Saints are 1-6 on the season with their lone win coming at Colgate, 4-2. Fariyah Omarshah leads the team in scoring with nine points behind four goals and one assist. Ashley Donna owns six points (two goals, two assists) while Aubrie Bleier has five points (two goals, one assist). Jaycie St. John leads the team with two defensive saves while goalkeeper Mary Crumlish has tallied a 4.21 GAA and .667 save percentage.
 
Lehigh is 14-0 all-time against Siena following an impressive 4-0 win over the Saints last season. Carotenuto scored all four goals, falling just one goal shy of tying the Patriot League single-game record. The sides first met in 1993, a 4-2 Lehigh win.
 
Following this weekend, Lehigh remains home for two games next weekend, hosting Colgate next Saturday (Oct. 9) and Siena the following day.
