Mountain Hawks Win Five Events at Lehigh Games; Wrap Up at Penn Relays

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team picked up five wins on Saturday at the Lehigh Games, held at the Goodman Campus Track. Christopher Del Rossi took home the top prize in the 400 meter dash in 49.49 seconds and Clay Stabolepszy broke the tape in the 800 meter run (1:57.43). Andrew Culkin notched his first win of the season with a new PR in the 400m hurdles (55.89), finishing one spot ahead of teammate Tom Troxell to help the Mountain Hawks take the top two spots. In the field events, Daniel Boardman set anew PR with his triple jump victory (14.10m) and Lucas Warning captured the shot put title (17.45m), which is the second furthest shot put in the Patriot League this season, trailing only his mark of 17.60m from March 26.
Lehigh also had a pair of jumpers wrap up competition at the Penn Relays, where grad student Adeolu Adesida placed fifth in the High Jump Championship of America event by tying his season-high leap of 2.08m. Junior Daniel Reichenbach also competed in the collegiate triple jump, placing 28th (13.40m).
Back in Bethlehem, sophomore Jake Sabatini led the way in third place (11.30) of the 100 meter dash and Michael Camera landed in the top five with a fifth place tally (11.32). Emre Soybas set a new PR with his third place finish of 22.60 in the 200m dash, as did James Clements (23.12) with his eighth place finish. The same duo also set PRs in the 400m dash, with Clements (49.77) taking third place and Soybas (50.32) finishing in fourth.
James Chappell was the second Lehigh runner across the line in the 800m run (1:59.02), finishing behind Stabolepszy. Christopher Mascetti set a new PR with his third place finish of 3:56.71 in the 1500m, narrowly missing an IC4A qualifying mark. Kyle Berman (8th/3:59.93) and Evan Ward (17th/4:06.86) also set new PRs in the 1500m event.
Jack Curran and Kyle Leonard led Lehigh in the 5,000 meter run, with Curran taking second place (15.28.24) and Leonard finishing fourth (15:40.24).
Ryan Givens (4th/15.67) and Fritz Isaac (5th/15.73) finished in the top five of the 110m hurdles, and Robert Hugin finished third on the team, fifth overall in the 400m hurdles (59.09).
Joseph Inglis took runner-up in the 3,000m steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 9:43.31.
Lehigh's 4x100 relay team also took second place, combining on a time of 42.69 seconds.
In the field events, Givens set a new PR (1.99m) in the high jump to take home second place, while Trevor Knowles (1.84m) took seventh place, coming one centimeter short of tying his PR. Beau Whitman (4.26m) tied for sixth in the pole vault, one spot ahead of Max Jordan (4.11m).
Givens continued his eventful day by shattering his personal-best long jump to finish in fourth place (6.82m). Boardman followed closely behind in fifth place (6.64m).
Camera (13.30m) and Cody Israel (13.28m) took fourth and fifth place, respectively, in the triple jump that was won by Boardman. Christopher Foley (15.17m) took 5th place out of 19 competitors in the shot put, and Knowles set a new PR of 43.58m to take 12th place in the javelin.
Lehigh will now focus its preparation on the Patriot League Championships, which will take place on Friday-Saturday, May 8-9 at Bucknell.
