BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's golf team will compete in the fourth annual Patriot League Championship, beginning Saturday at the Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa. The Mountain Hawks will be one of six teams vying for the Patriot League title and the automatic berth for the NCAA Women's Golf Championship. The Patriot League Championship is a two-day, 54-hole event with teams playing 36 holes on Saturday, followed by the final 18 on Sunday.
Lehigh returns to the site of its Patriot League Championship triumph in the inaugural women's golf championship in 2013. Senior Nicole Feierberg was a freshman on the 2013 championship team and earned Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors as the lowest scoring freshman in the field. Feierberg has earned All-Patriot League honors in each of the last two seasons, garnering second team accolades in 2014 and first team honors last year.
As a team the Mountain Hawks finished third at the 2014 league championship and finished second last season, 10 strokes behind Boston University at the Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Md.
The Patriot League championship features a play six, score four format. The individual champion will be named the Patriot League Women's Golfer of the Year, while the highest finishing freshman receives the sport's Rookie of the Year honor. Head coaches from all six schools will vote on the Patriot League Coach of the Year award.
There will also be a 10-member All-Patriot League Team based on finish at the championship. The top five finishers (including ties) make the first-team squad, and all remaining finishers up to 10th place (including ties) qualify for the second-team.
With just six players on its roster, Lehigh will be represented by Feierberg, junior Elizabeth McGarrigle, sophomores Casey Farmer and Megan Moylan, and freshmen Reagan Jahn and Aileen Jeong. McGarrigle competed at the Patriot League Championship as a freshman in 2014 while Moylan tied for 14th last year.
Lehigh played at Bucknell Golf Club this past September in the Bucknell Invitational, a tournament where the Mountain Hawks finished fourth out of 14 competing schools. McGarrigle topped all Lehigh players in the tournament, finishing sixth overall with a score of 227 (76-75-76). Jeong captured the low round for Lehigh in the tournament with a 74 on Sunday to tie for eighth place at 231 (81-76-74).
The Mountain Hawks last played at the four-team Navy Spring Invitational, April 9-10, where the Mountain Hawks finished second, beating league rivals Navy and Bucknell while falling one stroke short of Georgetown. Feierberg led the way for the Mountain Hawks with a third place finish.
Jahn led Lehigh in each of its previous two spring tournaments, the Lady EagleCat Invitational and the William & Mary Kingsmill Intercollegiate.
Lehigh was picked third in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, behind defending champion Boston University and Richmond and ahead of Bucknell, Navy and Holy Cross.
The Mountain Hawks will play with Richmond and Holy Cross on Saturday with first tee times going off the 10th hole at 8:30 a.m. for the first round and the first hole at 1 p.m. for round two.
