CoSIDA Academic All-America Release

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior offensive lineman Micah Tennant has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Football first team, it was announced Thursday. Tennant started all 12 games of his senior season at left guard for the Patriot League champion Mountain Hawks, while also serving as one of Lehigh's top performers academically.

The Academic All-America teams are voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Last month Tennant was recognized as Academic All-District and just last week he and senior defensive lineman Jimmy Mitchell were named Academic All-Patriot League.

Tennant carries a 3.90 grade cumulative point average, tops on the Lehigh football team, as a mechanical engineering major. In addition to his Academic All-District and all-league laurels, Tennant is made multiple appearances on Lehigh's Dean's List and is thus far a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. He posted 4.0 GPAs in the fall semesters in both 2014 and 2015.

On the field, the Ligonier, Pa. product recently completed his first season as a starter. He has been a key member of a veteran offensive line that has paved the way for Lehigh to average 483.8 yards per game. The Mountain Hawks lead the Patriot League in passing offense (324.9 ypg.) and rank second in scoring offense (38.8 ppg.) and total offense. Lehigh ranks in the top 10 in the FCS in all three categories.

The Mountain Hawks went 9-3 in 2016 and won the Patriot League championship with a perfect 6-0 league mark. After dropping its first two games Lehigh went on a nine-game winning streak, during which Tennant helped Lehigh's offense average nearly 534 yards and 45 points per game.

Tennant becomes the eighth Lehigh football player to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors and the first since Zach Barket was a second team selection in 2012. He is just the second player to earn first team honors, joining Shon Harker in 1990. Other Lehigh football Academic All-Americans include Nick Martucci (1998), Jason Mack (1994), Rich Clark (1991), Rob Varano (1989) and Bobby Liptak (1975).
