Spangenberg Named Patriot League Player of the Week

FULL PATRIOT LEAGUE RELEASE
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh volleyball freshman Ana Spangenberg has been named the Patriot League Player of the Week as the league announced its weekly awards on Tuesday.
Spangenberg had brilliant performance last Saturday in the biggest win of the season thus far as she helped lead the Mountain Hawks to a 3-0 win over American. The freshman led all players with 16 kills and finished with an impressive match-leading .609 hitting percentage. She also compiled three total blocks to finish tied for the match lead among all players.
Spangenberg is the first Mountain Hawk to be named the PL Player of the Week this season. She is also the only freshman in the Patriot League this season to earn the award and is the first Lehigh freshman to garner the honor since Monica Girard in 1994.
Lehigh's win over American last Saturday ended a 15-match win streak for the Eagles, including a run of nine-straight 3-0 sweeps. AU had run off 28-straight set victories prior to last Saturday's meeting with Lehigh. The Eagles had not lost a set since falling 33-31 in the third set against Navy on October 4.
Lehigh also spoiled American's unblemished Patriot League record which now stands at 14-1. The Eagles wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the Patriot League Championship following their 3-0 win at Colgate last Friday night.
The Mountain Hawks are tied with Navy for fourth in the Patriot League standings with two matches remaining for both teams. The top four teams qualify for the Patriot League Championship and if the two teams finish tied after the final two matches, Lehigh holds the tie breaker and will advance to the PL postseason.
