Mitchell, Tennant represent Lehigh on Academic All-Patriot League Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh football seniors Jimmy Mitchell and Micah Tennant have been named to the Academic All-Patriot League football team announced Wednesday. The duo are two of 14 Patriot League football student-athletes recognized for their efforts in the classroom in addition to on-field performance.
 
To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor. The football Academic All-Patriot League Team has 14 student-athletes to equal one-half the size of the sport's All-Patriot League first team. The Academic All-League teams are voted on by the league's sports information directors.
 
Mitchell carries a 3.39 GPA as a finance major. He has made two appearances on Lehigh's Dean's List and two on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
 
The La Grange, Ill., native has started all 11 games at nose guard for the Mountain Hawks. He has 22 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble to his credit in 2016. Mitchell's two sacks came in back-to-back key league wins over Fordham and Bucknell.
 
A CoSIDA Academic All-District selection from earlier this month, Tennant owns the top GPA on the Lehigh football team with a 3.90 in mechanical engineering. The Ligonier, Pa. product is a multi-year member of Lehigh's Dean's List and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Tennant has posted perfect 4.0 GPA semesters in the fall of 2014 and 2015.
 
On the field, Tennant has started all 11 games for Lehigh at left guard. He has been part of a veteran offensive line that has paved the way for Lehigh to average 491.5 yards per game. The Mountain Hawks lead the Patriot League in scoring offense (40.5 ppg.) and passing offense (325.9 ypg.) and have averaged nearly 534 yards and 45 points per game during their current nine-game winning streak.
 
Holy Cross wide receiver Jake Wieczorek was voted Scholar-Athlete of the Year for football.
 
The Mountain Hawks (9-2, 6-0 Patriot League) enter the postseason on a nine-game winning streak. No. 18/15 Lehigh will visit No. 22/21 New Hampshire in the first round of the FCS Playoffs. Game time is set for 2 p.m. Saturday from Wildcat Stadium in Durham, N.H. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 via the WatchESPN app. Audio coverage will be available on ESPN Radio of the Lehigh Valley (1230/1320/1160-AM) beginning at 1 p.m.
