STATS Release | Preview: Patriot League champs head to Easton Saturday for 152nd edition of The Rivalry

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head coach Andy Coen has been named one of 15 finalists for the Eddie Robinson Award, given to the FCS Coach of the Year, STATS LLC announced on Tuesday. Coen has guided the Mountain Hawks to an 8-2 record in 2016 with Lehigh having clinched its Patriot League-best 11th league title. The Mountain Hawks are ranked in the top 20 of both major polls and will play in the FCS playoffs for the first time since 2011.

Now in his 11th season, Coen has overseen Lehigh's current eight game winning streak, its longest in-season streak since 2012. Lehigh's 20-13 league title-clinching win over Bucknell on Nov. 5 was the 76th of Coen's career, moving him past John Whitehead for second place on Lehigh's career football coaching victories list. He sits nine wins behind Bill Leckonby for the top spot on Lehigh's list.

Coen has now won four Patriot League titles as Lehigh's head coach and will be guiding the Mountain Hawks to the playoffs for the third time (2010 and 2011). This is the third time Coen has been named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award. He finished seventh in the 2010 balloting and sixth in 2011.

The Eddie Robinson Award is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2016. It will be presented by STATS at the national awards banquet on the eve of the NCAA Division I FCS Championship Game on Jan. 6 in Frisco, Texas.

A panel of sports information directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries will select the Robinson Award winner. In addition to Coen being named a finalist on three occasions, former Lehigh head coach Pete Lembo won the Eddie Robinson Award in 2001.

No. 19/17 Lehigh (8-2, 5-0 Patriot League) will close out the regular season on Saturday when the Mountain Hawks visit Lafayette in the 152nd meeting of college football's most-played rivalry. Kickoff is set for just after 12:30 p.m. from Fisher Stadium in Easton, Pa.
