Lehigh Ice Hockey Dominates Lafayette in 9-3 Victory

11/22/2015 10:06:00 AM | Men's Ice Hockey (ACHA D1)

Lehigh took on the Lafayette Leopards on Friday night at the Steel Ice Center. The atmosphere was electric as both teams packed the stands with fans. Lehigh took advantage of an early Lafayette penalty, as Andrew Clayton blasted a slap-shot from the blue line passed the goalie on  assists by Chris Ramondelli and Adam Goldstein. The Mountain Hawks never looked back in the first period as Henry Brooks added another goal 3 minutes later from Ramondelli and Eric Delgizzo. The first period ended with Lehigh holding on to a 2-0 lead, never giving Lafayette good scoring chances.

The second period started off the same as the first with both teams not really getting anything going in the opening minutes. Lehigh seemed to grab all the momentum when Adam Goldstein found Evan Goldstein in the slot, where he buried a shorthanded goal 9 minutes into the period. Lehigh still had to kill the penalty, but was unsuccessful as Lafayette netted a power-play goal less than 2 minutes later to cut the score to 3-1 Lehigh. Just when Lafayette thought they grabbed the momentum, Lehigh took it back when they scored 2 goals one minute apart. First it was McGee from Chris Ramondelli and Joe Ramondelli, and the second was Brooks on a breakaway from Chris Ramondelli and Justin Uzcategui. Lehigh had a 5-1 lead when Lafayette answered with just 4 minutes to go in the period to make it 5-2. Lehigh went on a late power-play with less than 2 minutes to go in the period and Stephen Flego buried a shot from the point off a nice pass by Adam Goldstein to give Lehigh a 6-2 lead going into the third period.

The Mountain Hawks entered the third period with a 4-goal lead and kept the pressure up by scoring the first goal of the period when Adam Goldstein buried a power-play goal from Evan Goldstein and Clayton. Lafayette answered with a shorthanded goal with 10 minutes to go to make it 7-3 Lehigh. Lehigh was not done yet as they scored 2 more goals in 30 seconds as Jonathan Homan and Eric Delgizzo added goals. No goals were scored in the final 9 minutes and Lehigh defeated Lafayette 9-3. Lehigh improved their record to 10-8 on the season.
