Andrew Carlin records first Lehigh shutout in many years
Lehigh stuns West Chester 4-0
ÂAfter losing 9-3 to West Chester in the third game of the season, the Mountain Hawks were able to avenge the loss with a convincing 4-0 shutout victory at West Chester. Â Lehigh has improved its record to 11-8 as they head into the holiday season. Â Games will pick up again on January 22nd as the team faces 4 league games in two weeks to keep its standing atop the ECHA league..
ÂChris Ramondelli and Kevin McGee got the scoring started early in the first period with some quick plays in the neutral zone. Ramondelli intercepted a West Chester pass and the puck bounced to McGee. McGee passed the puck through his legs as Ramondelli streaked into the offensive zone. One of one with the West Chester defenseman, Ramodelli took a quick shot that found the far top corner of the net. Play went back and forth. Lehigh killed off 2 penalties in the period.  Andrew Carlin faced 15 shots in the first period and turned away each one as the period ended 1-0.
Lehigh scored early in the second period when Jake Homan outletted a pass to Adam Goldstein who sent Scott Mogerley going up ice on a 2 on 1 with Evan Goldstein.   Mogerley faked like he would pass to Golstein and then fired a shot past the West Chester goalie to make the score 2-0.  Lehigh had opportunities from Henry Brooks and Evan Goldstein in the period but could not convert.  Again, goalie Andrew Carlin faced 14 shots and made 14 saves.  The second period ended 2-0.
ÂLehigh came out in the third period ready to close out the game.   West Chester began to take penalties and the Mountain Hawks responded with a power play goal.  McGee got the puck on the left side of the ice and sniped the goalie high and short-side.  Assists were recorded by Ramondelli and Andrew Clayton.  Late in the game, Joe Belcastro made a hit to keep the puck in the zone. Evan Goldstein picked up the loose puck and quickly passed across the ice to Adam Goldstein who one-timed the puck and blew it by the Westchester goalie who had no chance to make the save.  West Chester pulled the goalie with 3 minutes left in the game but could not penetrate the Lehigh defense and the spectacular play of goalie, Andrew Carlin.
ÂLehigh recorded an important win against a higher ranked team to close out the first semester of hockey games. Â We need to look back in the history of Lehigh Ice Hockey to see when the last shutout was recorded. Â It was a long time ago.
