BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's soccer junior Justin Worley has been named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league Monday afternoon. Worley and the Mountain Hawks host James Madison in Lehigh's final non-league contest Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Free video will be available on the Patriot League Network.
Worley anchored a Lehigh defense that secured its seventh shutout of the season Saturday in a 1-0 victory over Loyola. The Mountain Hawk backline allowed just three shots on goal from the Greyhounds. Worley made several strong defensive plays to help lead the Mountain Hawks to three big points in the league standings and the 200th win of head coach Dean Koski's career.
The Mountain Hawks carry a 7-5-1 overall record into Tuesday's contest against James Madison and look to build upon Saturday's 1-0 victory over Loyola. Senior Jamie Luchini scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 23rd minute and sophomore keeper Joe Bogan made three saves to secure his sixth clean sheet of the season.
Luchini leads the team, and is tied for the league lead, with 16 points behind six goals and four assists. Freshman Mark Forrest follows with 13 points thanks to five goals and three assists. Bogan has tallied a 6-2-1 record in goal to go along with 45 saves, a .833 save percentage and .870 goals allowed average.
The Dukes are 3-7-4 this season and are coming off a tough 2-1 loss at 11th-ranked Elon Saturday in JMU's most recent action. Connor Coward scored JMU's goal in the ninth minute, but Elon found the back of the net in the 39th and 82nd minutes to capture the win. The Dukes' three wins this season came against VMI (2-0), Northeastern (3-2, 2OT) and William and Mary (W, 3-1).
Coward has scored a team-best four goals, while four other Dukes have tallied two apiece. Billy Metzler has dished four assists to go along with a pair of goals, good for eight points. Kyle Morton is 3-5-4 in goal with a .723 save percentage and 1.00 GAA.
Tuesday's contest will be just the second-ever meeting between Lehigh and JMU. The Mountain Hawks won the first meeting 2-0 in 2003.
Following Tuesday's game, Lehigh returns to action Saturday with a 7 p.m. game at league-leading Boston University. Free video will be available on the Patriot League Network.
