Mountain Hawks travel to Bucknell, host Colgate this weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh volleyball team will play its first league road match of the season Friday at 7 p.m. at Bucknell before returning home to host Colgate Saturday at 4 p.m. inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. Free video of Friday's match at Bucknell will be available on the Patriot League Network.
 
The Mountain Hawks carry a 9-8 overall record that includes a 2-1 mark in Patriot League play into this weekend's action. Lehigh fell 3-0 to Lafayette in the league opener, but bounced back nicely with a straight-set win over Loyola and 3-1 victory against Navy in the Mountain Hawks' most recent action. Senior Leah Turner leads Lehigh with 184 kills, while classmates Stephanie Slater (164) and Ana Vrhel (137) follow closely behind. Senior Amy Matula has dished a team-best 435 assists, while junior Mariah Brantley leads the squad with 207 digs. The Mountain Hawks are hitting .227 as a team this season, but have tallied a .263 attack percentage in Lehigh's three league matches.
 
Bucknell heads into Friday's match with a 7-6 overall record and 1-2 mark in league play. The Bison opened league play with a straight-set loss to Colgate before edging out Navy 3-2 last Friday and dropping a 3-0 decision to American Saturday. Karen Campbell leads the team with 151 kills and is followed by Blake Buchholz (118) and Hailey Stout (112). Campbell's .361 attack percentage leads the Bison squad that averages a .207 hitting percentage. Meghan Wentzel has registered a team-best 452 assists, while Buchholz leads the team with 135 digs.
 
Lehigh has won the last four meetings against the Bison, picking up straight-set victories in each match. The Mountain Hawks lead the all-time series 43-27.
 
Colgate is 4-10 on the season, but holds a 2-1 record in Patriot League play. The Raiders will visit Navy Friday night before heading to Bethlehem. Colgate began league play with a 3-0 sweep of Bucknell before dropping a 3-1 match to Army and earning a 3-1 victory against Holy Cross last weekend. Kathleen Harris leads the Raiders with 164 kills, and is followed by Katie Stebbins (89) and Katie Stansbury (81).  Molly Smith has tallied a team-best 257 assists, while Harris also leads the squad with 153 digs. The Raiders have been limited to a .165 attack percentage so far this season compared to their opponents' average of .229.
 
Lehigh and Colgate split last year's meetings, with the home team emerging victorious on both occasions. The Raiders rallied for a 3-2 victory on their home court in the first match before Lehigh earned a straight-set win in Bethlehem. Colgate leads the all-time series 36-16.
 
Following this weekend's action, Lehigh will host two-time defending champion American on Saturday October 10 at 4 p.m. inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall.
