Lehigh predicted to finish fourth, Van Streepen named preseason All-League

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh volleyball team was projected to finish fourth in the Patriot League, as announced by the league's preseason poll Friday. Senior Jade Van Streepen was named a preseason All-League honoree.
Defending Patriot League champion American took the top spot in the preseason poll, garnering 128 points and 16 first-place votes. After winning the Patriot League a season ago, the Eagles went on to make an appearance in the NCAA Tournament's round of 16. Colgate followed in second place with 104 points and two first-place votes. Army (102 points) was projected third while the Mountain Hawks took fourth with 85 points. Navy (81), Loyola (52), Bucknell (41), Holy Cross (29) and Lafayette (26) rounded out the preseason poll.
Van Streepen earned second team All-Patriot League recognition following the 2013 season after leading the Mountain Hawks with 304 kills and a 3.27 kills per set average that ranked fourth-best in the league. The Austin, Texas native recorded a team-best eight double-doubles throughout the season and also contributed 37 total blocks, 194 digs and 17 service aces. Van Streepen, an environmental engineering major, also earned a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League squad a season ago.
The poll and preseason All-League teams are voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors who could not vote for their own teams or student-athletes.
The 2013 season marked Lehigh's third-straight appearance in the Patriot League Tournament. The Mountain Hawks fell to champion American in the semifinal match, but finished the season with a 20-9 overall record and an 11-5 league mark. The 20-win season was Lehigh's first since 2002.
The Mountain Hawks open the 2014 campaign at the Buffalo Invitational on August 29-30 and make their home debut on Sept. 12-13 when Lehigh hosts the Crosstown Invitational.
