The Rivalry: Lehigh vs. Lafayette
HELLERTOWN, Pa. – In its final tune-up before this weekend's Patriot League Championship, the Lehigh men's golf team defeated rival Lafayette 298-306 in stroke play Tuesday afternoon at Silver Creek Country Club. Junior Carlos Kim and sophomore Dave Olexson shot one over par 72 to lead the Mountain Hawks in the play six, score four format. Lafayette had one extra player so the Leopards played seven and scored four.
Kim and Olexson posted the low score among the 13 participants in the field. Senior Alex DiClemente returned to action after missing last weekend's Navy Spring Invitational and posted a 76 to post Lehigh's No. 3 score. DiClemente's round included a hole-in-one with a 7-iron on the 170 yard 16th hole.
Lehigh's fourth official score came from sophomore Harley Abrams, who carded a 78. Also competing for the Mountain Hawks were freshman Brendan Worthy, who shot 80 and sophomore Johnny Heydt, who finished with an 81.
Lafayette was led by Garrett Sweeney and Robert Dwyer who both shot 75.
The win was Lehigh's third straight over the Leopards. The Mountain Hawks have won the last two year-end stroke play competitions and defeated Lafayette in match play in October to reclaim the Presidents' Cup.
Next up for the Mountain Hawks is the two-day, 54-hole Patriot League Championship, beginning Saturday at the West Point Golf Course.
