BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Five members of the Lehigh football program were named to All-Patriot League teams, announced Tuesday. Senior offensive lineman Ned Daryoush and junior punter Austin Devine represent the Mountain Hawks on the first team, while senior defensive lineman Tim Newton, sophomore linebacker Colton Caslow and freshman wide receiver Troy Pelletier earned second team accolades for Lehigh.
Daryoush is now a three-time all-league selection and a two-time first team performer, while Newton was recognized for the second consecutive year. Pelletier becomes the first Lehigh freshman to earn All-Patriot League honors since John Kennedy was named all-league as a kick returner in 2007.
The anchor of Lehigh's offensive line, Daryoush started all 33 games of his final three seasons at left tackle. A team captain and leader of a unit that underwent significant change due to injury throughout the season, Daryoush anchored a line that allowed the Mountain Hawks to average 389 yards and nearly 26 points per game. Lehigh averaged 167 yards per game on the ground and rushed for more than 150 yards in nine of 11 games this season.
Devine emerged as a weapon in the field position game in his first season as Lehigh's starting punter. The left-footed Devine led the Patriot League leads the Patriot League and ranks 17th nationally in punting, averaging 42.2 yards per game. Twenty-one of Devine's 47 punts were downed inside the opponents' 20-yard line and just seven were returned for an average of 5.1 per return. As a team, Lehigh leads the Patriot League and ranks 14th nationally in net punting, averaging 38.2 yards per kick.
Pelletier enjoyed one of the finest freshman campaigns in school history, as he led the Mountain Hawks with 815 yards and seven touchdowns on 49 receptions. A two-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week, Pelletier had three 100-plus yard receiving days, highlighted by a ten-catch, 214-yard performance in a game at Holy Cross.
Newton was honored for the second consecutive year after racking up 51 tackles and a team-best five sacks from his defensive line spot. A first team pick a season ago; Newton ranks second on the Mountain Hawks with eight tackles for loss and finishes his Lehigh career with 13.5 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss.
Lehigh's second leading tackler in 2014, Caslow picks up the first all-league honor of his career. Despite missing 1.5 games due to injury, Caslow finished with 67 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Caslow had a big day with 12 tackles, 1.5 TFL and a forced fumble at Georgetown and established a new career-high with 13 stops against Lafayette.
Patriot League champion Fordham and upstart Bucknell split the major awards with Fordham quarterback Mike Nebrich earning Offensive Player of the Year honors and running back Chase Edmonds winning Rookie of the Year. Bucknell linebacker Evan Byers was named Defensive Player of the Year, while Joe Susan was named Coach of the Year.
