BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer team looks to close out its home schedule on a high note Wednesday when the Mountain Hawks host defending Patriot League champion and 23rd-ranked Navy at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and free video will be available on the Patriot League Network.
The Mountain Hawks currently sit in fourth place in the Patriot League with nine points and a 3-3 league record that is part of an 8-7 overall mark. Lehigh is two points ahead of four teams that are tied for fifth and just one point behind third-place American. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a big 2-1 win over Army Saturday night. Goals from senior Brian Suchoski and junior Jamie Luchini, in addition to a strong defensive effort, helped Lehigh to the much-needed league victory. Freshman Doyle Tuvesson earned his third Patriot League Rookie of the Week award of the season Monday after assisting the game-winning goal against Army and netting one of his own in Lehigh's 4-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson Tuesday.
Luchini leads Lehigh offensively with 15 points behind five goals and five assists. Tuvesson follows with four goals and three assists, good for 11 points. Six other Mountain Hawks have scored goals this season. Senior keeper Ciaran Nugent has been a force between the pipes, tallying 45 saves to go along with a 1.28 GAA and .735 save percentage.
Navy enters Wednesday's matchup in second place in the Patriot League with 15 points and trails first-place Boston University by just one point. The Mids have won six consecutive games and have shut out their opponent in five of those six wins. Navy is coming off a 2-1 win over Holy Cross Saturday thanks to goals from Geoff Fries and Jamie Dubyoski. Dubyoski was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week and earned a spot on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week Monday after recording seven points in Navy's two wins last week. The Mids have only lost one league game this season, a 2-1 loss at Boston University in the league opener on Sept. 27.
The Mids lead the Patriot League in goals, assists, points and shutouts. Dubyoski leads the team with 23 points behind nine goals and five assists, while Thomas Shiiba follows with 12 points. Eleven different Navy players have scored goals this season. Jackson Morgan has spent a majority of the time in net, tallying six shutouts and a 9-3-2 record. Morgan holds a 0.64 GAA and .830 save percentage.
Navy holds a 31-17-6 advantage in the all-time series, but the Mountain Hawks have won 14 of the last 18 meetings between the two teams. Lehigh trailed 1-0 for the majority of last season's meeting, but the Mountain Hawks found an equalizer in the 84th minute before an own goal less than a minute later gave Navy a 2-1 win.
Following Wednesday's contest, Lehigh hits the road for the final two regular-season contests of the season. The Mountain Hawks head to Colgate at 4 p.m. Saturday Nov. 1 before traveling to Holy Cross the following Saturday.
