BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After two straight nonleague games, the Lehigh field hockey team returns to Patriot League play at Lafayette this Saturday. Gametime is set for 12 p.m. Saturday marks the Mountain Hawks' final road game of the season as they wrap up a five-game road trip in Easton.
Coming off last weekend's 4-0 loss to Lock Haven, Lehigh will look to turn things around against Lafayette as the season comes down the stretch. The Mountain Hawks currently sit fifth in the Patriot League with a 1-3 league record while Lafayette is right behind them in sixth with a 1-4 mark.
Following a stretch of four wins in five games, the Mountain Hawks have dropped their last five contests. During their recent streak, they've struggled offensively, scoring only three goals in that time.
Sophomore Gabby Tofig has enjoyed a breakout season scoring seven goals for her squad so far. Junior Lindsay Schott has provided a balanced attack, tallying four goals and three assists. Sophomore Amanda Granger also has three goals and one assist while junior Erin Ricker owns two goals and one assist. Sophomore Julia Ward has posted a .710 save percentage and 3.02 goals against average after stopping seven-of-eight shots in 53:42 of relief at Lock Haven.
Winners of two of the last three Patriot League Championships, Lafayette has struggled through the 2014 season. The Leopards have lost three straight and enter the weekend with a 5-9 overall record and 1-4 mark in the Patriot League. They have played a tough schedule though, facing #5 Connecticut and #6 Penn State as well as three other teams in the top 20. Lafayette hasn't lacked in the scoring department, led by senior Kelsey Mead with five goals and five assists while sophomore Amanda Magadan follows with five goals and one assist. Two other Leopards have tallied three goals for their team as well. Two goalkeepers have split time between the pipes with senior Jessica Deutsch seeing the majority of the minutes. She owns a 1.98 GAA and .667 save percentage in 531:11 played.
Lafayette leads the all-time series, 36-12-3. Lehigh is eying its first win over the Leopards since 2005. Last season, the Mountain Hawks hug tough in a 4-1 defeat.
After Saturday's game, the Mountain Hawks will wrap up their season at home by hosting Bucknell next Saturday (Nov. 1) and La Salle on Sunday (Nov. 2).
