Lehigh hosts Villanova looking to continue five-game win streak

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh volleyball team aims to build upon its strong start to the season when it hosts Villanova Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Leeman-Turner Arena. The Mountain Hawks have won five straight games, four of which were 3-0 shutouts.
Lehigh is coming off a sweep in the Lafayette College Tournament over the weekend. The team started with a 3-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday night. The Mountain Hawks continued on Saturday taking down Wright State and Saint Peters by scores of 3-1 and 3-0, respectively. Sophomore Ana Vrhel had a strong tournament, racking up a total of 24 kills during the weekend. On the defensive side, senior Rachel Charles led the team with 50 total digs.
Villanova heads into the match looking for a much needed win after a tough road trip. The Wildcats traveled to Lincoln, Neb., over the weekend where they took on the University of Nebraska and Southern Mississippi. They lost both games by scores of 3-1 and 3-0, respectively.
The Wildcats head into the game standing at 1-4 overall. Sophomore Lauren Carpenter leads the team on the season with 63 kills. Freshman standout Claire Crutchfield is a close second with 56. Senior Mariah Henley poses a strong defensive presence leading the team with 103 kills.
Tuesday night's game will be the 31st meeting between Villanova and Lehigh with the Wildcats leading the series 24-6. The two schools last met in 2012 in a match where Lehigh suffered a 3-1 loss.
The Mountain Hawks will continue its season this weekend when they host the Crosstown Invitational.
