BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh field hockey team heads into the weekend with two opportunities to get into the win column as the Mountain Hawks host the Penn Quakers on Friday (6 p.m.) before heading to Towson on Sunday (12 p.m.).

Lehigh opened its season with a tough 2-1 loss to Fairfield last Friday. Sophomore Lindsey Schott scored the only goal for the Mountain Hawks off a beautiful cross from sophomore Erin Ricker, but the Stags scored the go-ahead goal with 3:35 remaining. After trailing 9-2 in shots in the first half, the Mountain Hawks were within 8-7 in the second.

Against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday, Lehigh mustered up more offense, but fell to the Red Flash 6-3. The Mountain Hawks got goals from sophomores Ricker and Katherine Koomar, with freshman Amanda Granger adding one late in the game.

Freshman Julia Ward made her second start in as many games in goal for the Mountain Hawks, with junior Sydney Maltinsky-Wilson taking over midway through the first half.

The Quakers come to Bethlehem looking to start the season on the right foot in what will be their first game of the 2013 campaign. Penn looks to build off last season when it finished with its first winning record (9-8) since 2006.

The Tigers head into their weekend matchups looking for that coveted first win. They play Georgetown on Friday night before hosting Lehigh Sunday afternoon. Towson is coming off two tough home losses to open up its season, losing to Sacred Heart and Davidson by scores of 3-2 and 2-1, respectively.

Lehigh lost a hard-fought battle to Penn last year. The Mountain Hawks came back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the score, but gave up the final three goals in a 5-2 defeat. Two seasons ago, the Mountain Hawks won their first-ever game against the Ivy League school from Philadelphia. Penn leads the all-time series against Lehigh, 10-1-1.

Lehigh enjoyed success against Towson last season, winning 6-3. It marked the Mountain Hawks' most goals since 2004.

Following the weekend, Lehigh will return to Ulrich Field where it will host the Georgetown Hoyas on the Patriot League Network.
