Lehigh heads to American Saturday for Patriot League opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer team will travel to the nation's capital Saturday to take on American in a 1 p.m. match to open Patriot League play. The Mountain Hawks will look to rebound after last Saturday's 3-0 loss at La Salle.
Lehigh will carry a 1-4-1 record heading into Saturday's match. The Mountain Hawks and the Explorers were scoreless until the 75th minute of last weekend's game when La Salle found its stride and scored three goals in 11 minutes. The Mountain Hawk offense recorded ten shots on goal during the match.
Senior Ben Wysocki and freshman Danny Gonzalez have each scored a goal for Lehigh this season, while Wysocki has also recorded the team's only assist. Senior James Meyerkord and junior Brian Suchoski lead the team with 12 shots and five shots on goal, respectively. Junior goalkeeper Kevin Motylewski has tallied 16 saves.
American is coming off a 1-0 loss to Liberty last weekend and will bring a 2-3-2 record into the game with Lehigh. Liberty scored the decisive goal in the 70th minute off a corner kick. The Eagles appeared to have scored an equalizer six minutes later but the goal was called back due to a foul.
Dale Ludwig and Cristobal Soto lead the Eagles with two goals apiece, while Ludwig has also tallied three assists. Billy Knutsen has played every game in goal for American to notch 26 saves and a save percentage of .788.
Saturday's game will be the 20th all-time meeting between the two programs, with American holding the 11-4-4 advantage. The Eagles have won the last three matches against the Mountain Hawks.
Following the game at American, the Mountain Hawks will return home to host Bucknell on Saturday, October 5 and rival Lafayette on Wednesday, October 9.
