BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off its first victory of the season, the Lehigh field hockey team heads into the weekend with two opportunities to build on the momentum. The Mountain Hawks host the Georgetown Hoyas on Friday (6 p.m.) on the Patriot League Digital Network before heading to Monmouth on Sunday (1 p.m.).
Lehigh had a 5-4 heartbreaking loss last Friday to Penn, which saw the Quakers earn three penalty corners in the final minute. They converted on the final opportunity to seal the victory. Penn held the final edge in shots (24-12) and penalty corners (13-3).
Then on Sunday, an outstanding performance by a pair of freshmen (Marissa Glatt and Julia Ward) gave Lehigh the edge over Towson in the 1-0 victory. Glatt scored the only goal of the game just 7:01 minutes in while Ward made six saves for the shutout. Glatt was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week while Ward garnered honorable mention recognition.
The win marked Lehigh's second straight over Towson. The Mountain Hawks also beat Georgetown and Monmouth last season (3-2 and 2-1, respectively).
The Hoyas come to Bethlehem looking for their first win of the season. They stand at 0-4, coming off a tough 5-0 loss to Lock Haven. Georgetown looks to turn this season around after finishing 2-17 a season ago.
Monmouth heads into the weekend also looking for its win. On Saturday, Monmouth goes head to head with Temple before hosting Lehigh on Sunday. Monmouth is coming off of a 4-2 loss to Michigan State last Sunday and looks to bounce back with a victory this weekend.
Following this weekend, Lehigh looks to its Patriot League opener at Bucknell next Saturday before hosting Albany on Sunday.
