BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh volleyball team will hit the road for two Patriot League matchups this weekend as the Mountain Hawks play Navy Friday at 7 p.m. and Loyola Saturday at 4 p.m. Lehigh hopes to continue its four-match winning streak and build upon the momentum that came with a big 3-2 win over Army last Saturday.
Â
The Mountain Hawks boast a 17-6 overall record with an 8-3 mark in the Patriot League. Lehigh has only played four matches on the road this season, but has captured wins in three of the four.
Â
In their most recent match, the Mountain Hawks captured a thrilling 3-2 win over then first-place Army on Senior Day inside Leeman-Turner Arena. The victory snapped the Black Knights' 21-game winning streak over Lehigh. Sophomore Amy Matula recorded a career-high number of assists and kills, 54 and ten respectively, to garner Patriot League Player of the Week honors, while Ana Vrhel notched 17 kills and two blocks.
Â
The Mountain Hawks currently lead the nation in service aces per set, averaging 1.95, while senior Rachel Charles ranks 15th in the category with an individual average of 0.48. Junior Jade Van Streepen has tallied a team-leading 247 kills so far this season, while junior Kaylynn Genemaras follows with 210.
Â
Friday's match will be the second meeting between Lehigh and Navy this season. Earlier this year, the Mountain Hawks took down the Midshipmen in four sets behind 16 kills from Genemaras and 11 from sophomore Leah Turner.
Â
Navy hosts Friday's matchup coming off a shutout home win against Loyola on Tuesday night, just the Midshipmen's third win in nine tries in the confines of Wesley A. Brown Fieldhouse. The team now sits fifth in the Patriot League, just behind Lehigh, with a 6-4 Patriot League mark and 10-12 overall record.
Â
Senior Erin Fortner leads the team on offense with 269 kills. Her 196 digs rank second on the team behind Freshman Alli Graf who leads with 321. Graf also leads the team in service aces with 22 on the season.
Â
The Mountain Hawks will be searching for their ninth win over the Midshipmen in the last ten meetings. Navy leads the all-time series against Lehigh, 27-22.
Â
Following Friday's matchup, the Mountain Hawks head to Baltimore to face Loyola on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Greyhounds head into the match having lost five in a row, the most recent a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of the Midshipmen, and are 5-17 on the season and 2-8 in the Patriot League. Both of the Greyhounds' league wins have been secured on their home court. The Greyhounds will host Lafayette on Friday night before welcoming Lehigh to Reitz Arena on Saturday.
Â
Loyola is led on offense by Jac Bullock and Faye Lukas, two seniors who sit one and two on the team with 218 and 215 kills, respectively. The Greyhounds sit sixth in the Patriot League but with just six matches remaining on the season.
Â
Saturday afternoon's match is Lehigh's second of the season against Loyola. The Mountain Hawks won the first meeting handily, shutting out the Greyhounds 3-0.
Â
Following this weekend's matches, the Mountain Hawks host Bucknell next Friday for their final home match of the season before heading north to take on Colgate.
