Mountain Hawks aim to keep playoff hopes alive at Navy

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh men's soccer team looks to keep Patriot League Tournament hopes alive when the Mountain Hawks travel to Annapolis Wednesday night to take on Navy. The 7 p.m. matchup marks the final regular season road game for the team this year.

With three games left in the season, the Mountain Hawks stand at 2-11-1 with a 1-5-0 record in the Patriot League. Â Navy comes into the game having clinched Patriot League Tournament berth with a perfect 6-0 league record and a 10-3-2 overall mark.

Lehigh is coming off a hard fought loss to first-place Army on Saturday night. Despite holding an 11-10 shots advantage, including 5-4 on shots on goal, the Mountain Hawks were unable to find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss. Freshmen Danny Gonzalez and Gianfranco Giammatteo each recorded two shots on goal to pace the Lehigh offense.

Junior Brian Suchoski leads the Mountain Hawks with ten shots on goal this season while Gonzalez and Giammatteo sit in a tie for second with nine each. Â Junior Kevin Motylweski and freshman Jacob Gottwald have split time in net for Lehigh and have posted 1.45 and 1.50 goals against averages, respectively.

Navy comes into Wednesday night's matchup riding a nine-game win streak. The Midshipmen's last loss came back on September 17, a 3-2 double overtime road loss to UMBC. On Saturday, Navy traveled to Worcester, Mass., and took down Holy Cross in overtime by way of a 1-0 shutout. It was the team's seventh shutout of the season and fourth in its last six games.

Sophomore Jamie Dubyoski leads the Midshipmen on offense with nine goals and two assists to go along with 47 shots. His 20 points lead the team with junior Joseph Greenspan in second with five goals. Senior Gavin Snyder has been strong in net all season, boasting a perfect 9-0 record in games started and a .22 goals against average. Navy has been stellar on both offense and defense this season, outscoring opponents 25-12 in 15 games thus far.

Lehigh trails in the all-time series against Navy and stands with a 17-30-6 record since its first meeting in 1922. The team's most recent game came last season with Lehigh winning by a score of 2-1. Rylan Collins and Ali Famili, now juniors, netted two goals on Snyder to give the Mountain Hawks the victory.

Following Wednesday night's game, the Mountain Hawks return home to take on Colgate on Saturday night. The game is slated for 7 p.m. at Ulrich Sports Complex and will air for free on the Patriot League Network.Â
