Mountain Hawks fall at Holy Cross, 4-1

WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross scored the first three goals, which proved too much to overcome as the Lehigh field hockey team dropped a 4-1 final on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Marissa Glatt scored her Patriot League leading 12th goal of the season in the defeat.

"We did not play as a team and Holy Cross was able to capitalize off our mistakes," said Lehigh head coach Stacey Blue.

Holy Cross took a 1-0 lead at the 8:01 mark as Katy Cronin tipped a loose ball past Mountain Hawks' freshman goalie Julia Ward.

Michelle McNeil scored the next two goals to give the Crusaders a 3-0 lead midway through the first half, but Glatt finished a feed from classmate Amanda Granger to pull the Mountain Hawks within 3-1 at 22:20. That stood as the halftime score.

Holy Cross quickly extended its lead just 2:28 into the second half. After trailing 8-2 in first-half shots, Lehigh and Holy Cross were even in the second. However, the Mountain Hawks couldn't solve Crusaders goalie Kat Matchell for a second time.

Final shots were 16-10 in favor of Holy Cross while the Crusaders held a 5-2 edge in penalty corners. Ward made five saves over the first 45:20 before being replaced by senior Sydney Maltinsky-Wilson who stopped both shots sent her way. Matchett finished with three saves for the Crusaders.

Freshman Gabby Tofig led the team with four shots on the afternoon (one on goal) while Glatt finished with three (all on goal).

Lehigh wraps up its season next Saturday (Nov. 2) when it hosts #18 American on Senior Day. Gametime is set for 12 p.m. as Erinn Bonshak, Marie Mignogna and Caitlyn Mitchell will be honored prior to their final game in the Brown and White.
