BETHLEHEM, Pa. --The Lehigh men's soccer team looks to claim its second-straight Patriot League win when the Mountain Hawks take on Army on Saturday night. The game is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff on the road in West Point, N.Y.
A win would put the Mountain Hawks back in the hunt for a Patriot League Tournament spot. Lehigh looks to extend an unbeaten streak against Army that dates back to October 12, 1996, a 3-1 loss. A Black Knights victory would clinch a Patriot League Tournament berth and improve their record to 6-0 in the conference and 12-1 overall.
The Mountain Hawks enter the game with a 2-10-1 overall record and a 1-4 mark in league play. The team's first league win came last Saturday when the Mountain Hawks defeated Loyola at home by way of a 1-0 shutout.
Lehigh dropped a tough game to Stony Brook on Tuesday night, 3-0. The Mountain Hawks tallied a season-high 25 shots and nine shots on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net. Junior Brian Suchoski led the team in both shots and shots on goal, with six and three, respectively.
Army is coming off of a 2-1 overtime win against American last Saturday. The Black Knights used a late second-half penalty kick to tie up the game before freshman Alex Jaroscak netted the game winner four minutes into overtime.
Army has had strong defensive play all season, backed by junior goalkeeper Winston Boldt. The team's .909 save and .75 shutout percentages lead the nation. Boldt sits atop the Patriot League with 10 shutouts on the season and 59 saves. His 0.44 goals against average ranks second in the league behind only Gavin Snyder of Navy.
Offensively, the Black Nights have had a balanced attack with 13 different players scoring goals this season. Freshman Ethan Spivack leads the team with three goals on 15 shots.
Lehigh and Army last met on November 3, 2012, with the two schools playing to a 2-2 tie. Army leads the all-time series with a record of 19-18-6.
Following Saturday night's game, Lehigh heads to Annapolis on Wednesday to take on a tough Navy squad that is currently undefeated in the Patriot League. The game is set to be played at 7 p.m. and will be the Mountain Hawks final regular season road game this year.
