Mountain Hawks pick up impressive 5-2 win over Army

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's tennis team picked up a big 5-2 win over Army on Sunday, avenging last season's Patriot League Championship loss with a hard-fought victory. The Mountain Hawks won five-of-six singles matches, all coming in straight sets. The win pulls Lehigh to 10-7 on the season and 2-1 in league play.
Army took the doubles point by winning first and third doubles. Lehigh did capture No. 2 doubles as sophomore Mark Goldberg and freshman Mitchell Peterson beat Alex Van Velzer and Peter Sienko, 8-6.
Junior Andrew Krentz was victorious at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-4, which evened the score at one. Then, Army's Sienko took sixth singles, 6-2, 6-2 to give the Black Knights a 2-1 advantage.
However, Lehigh answered by taking the final four singles matches. Goldberg topped Asika Isoh at No. 1, 6-0, 6-4 while freshman Ben Gilman was victorious at No. 2, 6-3, 6-3. Peterson and junior Matt Savran won Nos. 3 and 4 singles, by scores of 6-3, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-3, respectively.
The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Tuesday when they host rival Bucknell at 3 p.m. They'll then round out the regular season at Lafayette next Monday (Apr. 23).
