Mountain Hawks head to D.C. to battle Georgetown Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Winners of its first six games this season, tenth-ranked Lehigh heads to Washington D.C. to face the Georgetown Hoyas in the first official Patriot League game for both teams, Saturday at Multi-Sport Field. Both Lehigh and Georgetown opened league play against Fordham, with the Mountain Hawks winning 34-31 two weeks ago, and the Hoyas falling to the Rams 38-31 last weekend in the Bronx.

Behind five touchdowns from quarterback Mike Colvin and career receiving days from Jamel Haggins and Sergio Fernandez-Soto Lehigh downed Columbia 35-14 last Saturday to move to 6-0 on the season.

Georgetown finished second to Lehigh in the Patriot League in 2011. The Hoyas come in at 3-3 overall and are looking to rebound from back-to-back losses to Brown and Fordham.

Colvin was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, after accounting for all five touchdowns in Lehigh's win over Columbia. Colvin completed 29-of-38 passes for 296 yards and four touchdowns through the air and added 38 yards and a touchdown on the ground. His performance against Columbia followed a career-best 341-yard passing day against Fordham and a game at Liberty where he rushed for 77 yards and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score on a 68-yard run in the fourth quarter. Colvin leads the Patriot League and ranks ninth nationally in total offense, averaging 313 yards per contest.
One of the keys to Lehigh's 6-0 start has been its ability to get off to strong starts. The Mountain Hawks have scored first in five of their six games and have outscored their opponents 70-14 in the first quarter. Lehigh scored the first 14 points in wins over Monmouth, Liberty and Columbia; the first 21 at Central Connecticut State and the first 17 versus Princeton. Fordham was the only game where Lehigh had to rally from a deficit.

Freshman linebacker Noah Robb was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week Monday after registering a pair of tackles and a QB hurry in the win over Columbia. Robb is one of several freshmen who have made significant contributions this season. Wide receiver/kick returner Derek Knott was named Rookie of the Week on September 3, after catching a touchdown in the win over Monmouth. Matt Laub has made contributions as a linebacker and as long snapper in the absence of Kyle Lechner. Cornerback Laquan Lambert has seen time in all six games on special teams, registering two tackles, while offensive lineman Terez Owens plays on Lehigh's field goal and extra point units.

Lehigh and Georgetown meet for the 18th time this afternoon with the Mountain Hawks leading the series 12-5. Lehigh has won the last 11 meetings, including Patriot League-title clinching wins in each of the last two seasons. The Brown and White met the Hoyas for the first time in 1901 and the teams did not meet between 1926 and 2001.
