Mountain Hawks open PL play vs. Army, Holy Cross

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh volleyball team will open Patriot League play this weekend with a pair of road matches against Army on Friday and Holy Cross on Saturday. The Brown and White (6-6) have won three of their last four matches and will be looking for payback against Army after the Black Knights defeated Lehigh in last year's Patriot League semifinals.
The Mountain Hawks are led on the offensive front by junior Angelika Kopacz and freshman Courtney McCutchan, each of whom have recorded six double-doubles this season. Kopacz owns a team-best 143 kills, while McCutchan has put away 102 kills. Defensively, freshman Rachel Charles leads the way with 193 digs and leads the league with 4.29 digs per set.
Army, the defending league champion, has posted a 7-8 record so far this season. The Black Knights average 15.58 digs per set, good for the second-highest mark in the league behind Lehigh's 16.76 clip. Ariana Mankus leads the team with 195 kills, while Karyn Powell owns a team-best 500 assists.
Friday's matchup will be the 38th all-time meeting between the Black Knights and Mountain Hawks; Army leads overall by a 25-12 margin. The Black Knights have defeated Lehigh in 13 straight matches dating back to the Mountain Hawks' last victory in 2003.
Holy Cross enters the weekend having played the most matches (17) of any Patriot League team to this point. The Crusaders own six victories thus far, including a pair of wins over Boston College and Quinnipiac at the Beanpot Classic to open the year. Megan Lynch leads the team with 221 kills and ranks fourth in the Patriot League with 3.51 kills per set.
The Mountain Hawks boast a 26-11 overall record vs. Holy Cross and have won each of the last four meetings.
Friday's match against Army in West Point, N.Y. is set to start at 7 p.m., while Saturday's contest against Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. is scheduled for 2 p.m.
