Women's Golf wins season-opening Sunshine Spring Classic

MIMS, Fla. – The Lehigh women's golf team shot a final round 337 for a final score of 658 as the Mountain Hawks captured the team title at their first spring event, winning the Sunshine Spring Classic Saturday at Walkabout Golf and Country Club. Head coach Rob Shutte's team maintained the lead established with a 321 on Friday to hold off Seminole State by six strokes.
Freshman Crystal Lee led the way for the Mountain Hawks shooting a 156 (77, 79) to finish second overall, six shots behind Elia Folch Sola of Seminole State, who earned medalist honors.
Sophomore Chelsea Michalek joined Lee in the top ten, tying for seventh overall with a score of 162 (81, 81). Sophomores Natalie Lansing and Ginette Schap
ira and senior Emily Endres rounded out Lehigh's five player title-winning team. Lansing tied for 19th with a 167 (81, 86), while Schapira shot 173 (82, 91), which tied for 36th place and Endres tied for 44th at 176 (85, 91).
Three other Mountain Hawks competed in the field as individuals. Freshman Ava Panteli tied for 30th after shooting a 172 (83, 89). Elizabeth Sander and Erika Kretschmann finished 71st and 72nd overall respectively.
Lehigh's 658 topped the 16-team field with Seminole State (664) and IUPUI (665) taking the next two spots. Radford (667) and Indiana State (670) rounded out the top five teams.
The Mountain Hawks will return to the links next weekend at the C&F Bank Invitational hosted by William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
