Mountain Hawks hang tough but fall 5-2 to Stetson

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Seniors Troy List and Collin Laffey knocked off one of the nation's top doubles teams, but it wasn't enough as Lehigh fell to Stetson 5-2 Friday afternoon at the Lewis Tennis Center. The visiting Hatters won two doubles matches and four of six singles matches on the day. Sophomore Matt Savran and freshman Mark Goldberg won three-set singles matches for Lehigh, which falls to 1-2 on the season.
Stetson's lead grew to 3-0 with wins at the first two singles flights, before Savran and Goldberg put Lehigh on the board with wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles with both Mountain Hawks needed third set tiebreaks to prevail.
Savran won his tiebreak 7-3 to defeat Hans A. Riseng 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 at No. 3 singles, while Goldberg prevailed 8-6 in his tiebreak to win 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 over Stene at fourth singles.
Didrik Berg clinched the match for Stetson with a straight set win over junior Edgars Rauza.
The Mountain Hawks will return to the court on Saturday when they host Georgetown at 9 a.m.
