BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After opening its season with a narrow loss on Friday, the Lehigh softball team fell to 0-3 on the young season with a pair of tough losses Saturday on day two of the ECU Pirate Clash. In Saturday's opener Campbell scored five runs in the third and four in the fifth to defeat the Mountain Hawks 11-3 in five innings, while in the nightcap Toni Paisley limited Lehigh to one hit as ECU downed the Brown and White 8-0 in six innings.
Lehigh entered the day looking for revenge after a 2-1 loss to the Camels in Friday's season-opener. On Saturday, the Mountain Hawks sent sophomore Rebecca Bliss into the circle in her season debut. Campbell went ahead 2-0 in the top of the second on a leadoff walk to Taylor McGee followed by back-to-back RBI doubles from Lizzie Goldbach and Keeli Michael.

The Mountain Hawks got a run back in the bottom of the frame as freshman catcher Jess Long drew a two-out walk and then came around to score on a double to left center by junior Tenley Halaquist.

Campbell (8-5) took advantage of Bliss' wildness to score five times in the top of the third. The inning featured three walks, a wild pitch and a two-run double by Goldbach. Freshman Kelsey Lee made her Lehigh debut in relief of Bliss but the Camels tacked on two more runs on a Lehigh error and a RBI groundout by Katie Hinton.

Lehigh again tried to answer in the bottom of the frame, putting the first two runners on as junior Audra Wood walked and senior Alex Cueva doubled to left field. Junior Julie Fernandez singled through the left side to drive home Wood, while Cueva eventually came in to score on a Christina Melton wild pitch.

Campbell tacked four more runs on in the top of the fifth and after Lehigh was unable to score in the bottom of the frame the game came to an end via the eight-run rule.

Goldbach led Campbell with two hits and three RBI while Amanda Miller and Sarah Forgacs drove in two runs apiece. Six different players recorded one hit for the Mountain Hawks.

Lehigh pitchers combined to give up ten earned runs on nine hits, while walking six. Bliss took the loss after giving up six earned runs in two-plus innings.

In the nightcap the Mountain Hawks faced the daunting task of hitting against East Carolina's Toni Paisley, a 2010 All-American and the reigning Conference USA Pitcher of the Year. Paisley was dominant en route to her ninth win of the season, striking out 11 Mountain Hawks and keeping Lehigh without a hit through five innings before Cueva led off the sixth with a single to right field.

East Carolina (11-4) took a 1-0 lead on a Jordan Lewis RBI single in the first inning and the Pirates added three more runs in the fourth inning on a two-run triple by Jill Jelnick and a single by Kristi Oshiro

Lehigh threatened in the top of the fifth, loading the bases with two walks and an error, but Paisley got freshman Lizzy Odren to pop out to third and then struck out sophomore Rosie Roessel and Wood to end the threat. The Pirates added a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to end the game.

Freshman Ashley Quigley started in the circle and took the loss, allowing five runs (two earned) on nine hits in five innings of work. Quigley walked two and struck out two as she falls to 0-2 on the season. Bliss pitched the sixth inning for Lehigh and gave up the final three runs.

The Mountain Hawks will wrap-up action at the ECU Pirate Clash with two games Sunday morning at the ECU Softball Stadium. Lehigh will face Fairfield at 9 a.m. and Towson at 11 a.m.
