Lehigh comes up short against West Chester

“I thought we had some great individual efforts today,” Lehigh head coach Julie Mazer said. “But you can't win games on individual effort alone, it's a team sport.”
West Chester wasted little time going on the offensive as it took a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the opening half. Alisha Moran dribbled the ball along the right endline and delivered a pass across the mouth of the cage to Molly Herlihy, who fired it past Miller to put the Golden Rams ahead.
West Chester doubled the advantage seven minutes before the half on a similar play. Nicole Fiorilla dribbled in on Miller from the right side and delivered a hard pass to Alyssa Gallen in front for the tip in at the left of the cage.
The Lehigh offense, meanwhile, could not find an answer for West Chester keeper Kristen Arnold in the first half. Arnold stopped four shots before giving way to Gabby Panasiewicz after halftime. Panasiewicz made one save in the second half as the resilient West Chester defense allowed the Mountain Hawks only two second-half shot attempts.
Michele Schrift added further insurance to the scoreline at the 45:31 mark, beating Miller short side after picking up a loose ball to the left of the cage.
“I know we are capable of playing much better than this,” Mazer said. “Give credit to West Chester, they were efficient, fit, aggressive and very aware on the field.”
The Mountain Hawks will try to bounce back on Sunday when they host St. Francis (Pa.) at the Ulrich Sports Complex at 1 p.m. Live stats will be available at Lehighsports.com.
