PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Lehigh gave a valliant effort against one of the region’s top teams but the Brown Bears held off the Mountain Hawks by a 4-1 on Rock ‘N Roll tennis night Friday night on Brown’s Pizzitola Indoor Courts. The Rock ‘N Roll format featured an abbreviated format with four singles flights and one doubles match played with music blaring constantly during play. Freshman Matt Savran defeated Miles Garriques in straight sets for his first college point and Lehigh’s lone point, but the Mountain Hawks fall to 0-3 with the setback.
“It was really a great match and a great atmosphere,” said Lehigh head coach Dave Shook. “Brown has a really good team but I thought we came out and played really well. We played some very close matches and were right there with them.”
Savran accounted for the Mountain Hawks’ win with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Garriques at No. 4 singles. At first singles, junior Troy List took Kendrick Au to three sets, before bowing 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. The Bears picked up straight set wins at the second and third singles flights and added a narrow win in the doubles match as Luciano Musella and Mike Hill edged juniors Arnaldo Pacheco and Cameron Silbert 8-6.
The Mountain Hawks will wrap up their New England trip with a match at Boston University Saturday at 2 p.m.
