Lehigh earned two other top 10 finishes on the day, with Nick Ray finishing ninth in the shot put and the women’s 4X800 team earning a fourth place finish at the ECAC Championships. Jon Wetzel finished 19th in the 5K to give Lehigh four top 20 finishes for the weekend.
“I think it’s pretty impressive just coming back from Patriots and doing another heptathlon back to back,” Lehigh head coach Matt Utesch. “He’s a senior and he’s just ready to go.”
The 4X800 team of Jen Therkorn, Sarah Serwo, Shannon Alejandro and Alex Neville decided to focus solely on the event before the weekend. Therkorn and Serwo turned down opportunities to compete in individual events in an effort to win the relay. They fell just short, with a time of 9:03.27, to finish fourth overall.
“They wanted to have a chance to win it,” Utesch said. “They still achieved being named All-East, and they ran the fastest time they’ve ever run there. They did a nice job and we’re very pleased with what happened there.”
