Lehigh sets PL record on day two in Annapolis

The men currently sit in fourth place heading into the final day, while the women are comfortably in third place. Navy leads the overall standings on the women’s side, and Bucknell sits atop the rankings on the men’s side through two days.
Alex Neville got the 4X800 race underway with a solid first split, but Lehigh was still stuck in the pack. Shannon Alejandro moved the Mountain Hawks up to second place during her leg of the race, and Jen Therkorn put the Brown and White in first place. That’s when Sarah Serwo simply pulled away and set a new Patriot League record with a time of 8:59.55.
Schuck came into the day in first place in the heptathlon, and added to his lead by winning the 60 meter hurdles in the opening event. But Schuck fell behind after the sixth event when Ryan White from Bucknell won the pole vault and Schuck slipped to fourth. Trailing by seven points going into the 1,000 meters – not Schuck’s best event according to Lehigh head coach Matt Utesch – the senior Mountain Hawk set a personal record and finished second behind teammate Kyle Forrest. Forrest drew White out to a fast pace in the beginning of the race and allowed Schuck to come from behind to win the overall title with a score of 5,011 points.
Schuck also finished second in the open long jump with a personal best mark of 23’ 8 3/4” and came in fourth in the high jump at 6’ 6 1/4.” Shuck has accounted for 22 of Lehigh’s 33 points by himself so far, and he still has more events to go, as he qualified for Sunday’s final in the hurdles along with teammate Scott Robinson.
