BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Nothing could get much sweeter for the Mountain Hawks aside from topping Lafayette for the second-consecutive year in the Lehigh-Lafayette dual meet. Except for the two Patriot League recognitions earned by race-winners, seniors Jenni Schappert and Sean Swift. Schappert received the league’s weekly Female Runner of the Week while Swift earned an honorable mention, as announced on Tuesday.
Schappert earned her second individual crown of the 2006 season when she crossed the line in 22:22.7. The North East, Md. native finished the 6K race 15 seconds ahead of her nearest competition, Lafayette’s Katherine Schultes. This is Schappert’s second recognition from the Patriot League this season. She received an honorable mention for her race-winning performance in the Lehigh Valley Cross Country Championships on September 5.
Meanwhile, Swift had competition with him throughout the entire race with former high school teammate, Lafayette’s Alex Wechsler, remaining right on his back. In crossing the four-mile mark, Swift and Wechsler were right together. However, in the last stretch to the finish line, Swift was able to outkick Wechsler in order to claim the individual title.
Next up on the Mountain Hawks’ schedule will be the 33rd annual Paul Short Run that will take place on September 29 on the Goodman Campus. The men’s collegiate invitational race is scheduled to start at 2:00 pm while the women’s collegiate invitation is set for 2:45 pm.
