Lehigh women tabbed second in preseason poll

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After a third place finish at last year’s Patriot League championship meet, Lehigh’s women’s cross country team was selected to finish second in the Patriot League’s preseason poll. The team garnered 78 points and two first-place votes in the poll, which is voted on by the league’s coaches and sports information directors. Defending champion Bucknell topped the poll with 92 points and 13 first-place votes. Navy was selected third with 73 points. Army placed fourth with 71 points and one first-place vote. American and Lafayette tied for fifth with 43 points. Colgate and Holy Cross rounded out the poll with 33 and 15 points, respectively.

The Mountain Hawks will return most of their top runners, including six of their top seven runners from last year’s championship meet. Leading the way will be two-time All-Region performer Jen Schappert, who made history last year by being the first-ever Mountain Hawk to qualify for the NCAA National meet. Also joining Schappert will be seniors Sarah Seiler and Carolyn House and sophomores Shannon Alejandro, Jennifer Filiberto and Kathleen McClernand.

Lehigh kicks off the season on Friday when it hosts the Lehigh Valley Championships on the Goodman campus. The women’s race is scheduled for a 5:00 pm start.
