Luebbe and Schappert earn All-District honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior Andrea Luebbe and junior Jen Schappert have both been honored for their accomplishments in the classroom and on the track and trail, by being named to the ESPN the Magazine women’s track and field/cross country Academic All-District II first-team, it was announced on Thursday. Voting is done by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) whose schools are in the region. Luebbe and Schappert will now move onto the national ballot where they are eligible for Academic All-America honors.
The first cross country Academic All-American in school history, as named by the Women’s Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association (WICCCA), Schappert became the first runner in Lehigh history to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country National Championships this past season. The international relations major has been a First-Team All-Patriot League selection in cross country in each of the past two seasons, and has been an All-League pick in both indoor and outdoor track during that time as well. Schappert, who holds a 3.86 overall grade point average, is the school record holder in the both the indoor one-mile run and the 5,000-meters and the outdoor 1,500-meters, and served as captain of the cross country team in 2005. She qualified for the ECAC Championships during both the indoor and outdoor track seasons, and made it to the NCAA East Regional Championships in the 5,000 during outdoor season.
Sporting a perfect 4.00 GPA, Luebbe is a two time All-Patriot League selection in cross country, including this past season, where she finished seventh at the league championships. She crossed in 22nd place at the prestigious Iona Meet of Champions in 2005, finished in the top-51 in each of the last two cross country regional meets and won the Lehigh-Lafayette dual meet in both 2003 and 2005. Luebbe is also an All-League honoree in outdoor track, which she garnered in 2005, and was the overall champion in the 1,500-meters at the 2005 Lehigh Valley Outdoor Championships. At the 2004 Patriot League Outdoor Championships, Luebbe placed in the top-five of the 10,000-meters and posted a top-ten finish in the 5,000-meters.
Luebbe and Schappert are both multi-year members fn the Dean’s List and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
