This year's Eugene M. '35 and Harriet Henry Fall Sports Banquet was held Sun, Jan. 15 at the
The Athlete of the Year Award is presented to the team member who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishments of the team. On the men’s side, junior Brendan Glover received the honor, while classmate Jen Schappert took home the award for the Mountain Hawk women. Both Glover and Schappert were All-Patriot League performers, with Schappert racing her way to a runner-up finish in the league championships for the second straight year. The duo then went onto claim All-Region honors at the Mid-Atlantic Regional, with Schappert earning herself a trip to the National Championships, the first runner in school history to do so.
The Scholar-Athlete Award goes to the student-athlete who in the eyes of his/her teammates exemplifies the ideal of the scholar-athlete. Senior captain Rob Hampson was awarded on the men’s side, while Schappert picked up her second award of the evening for the women. Hampson, who majors in civil engineering, is a member of both the Dean’s List and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, maintaining a grade point of 3.44 overall. Hampson posted a GPA of 3.92 in the fall semester and was an All-League selection for the third time in his career. An international relations major, Schappert posted a 3.73 grade point average this past semester, and like Hampson is a multi-year member of both the Dean’s List and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
Senior Tracie Fails and junior Steve Rosinski won this year’s Coaches Award at the banquet, which is presented to the individual who made significant contributions to the well being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement, or special leadership. Fails is a two-time captain for the Mountain Hawk women, while Rosinski solidified what was an already very talented group of Lehigh males runners.
