“There is no pre-game pep talk I could give my team at this point to get any more motivated for Lafayette,” said head coach Jenny Maurer. “This is such an emotional rivalry, and instead of letting the emotions work ‘for’ us, they worked ‘against’ us the last time we played them. Setters and hitters weren't connecting and our serve receive was off. We dug ourselves into a hole with unforced errors and
Lehigh recorded 21 errors in that match, compared to just 12 for the Leopards.
The Leopards are coming off a 3-0 win over Wagner on Wednesday. In that match Michaela Donahue led the team with eight kills and 12 digs, while Racibarskas and Kayly Elmer were each tied with seven kills.
The Leopards come into the match in sixth place in the Patriot League but is just two games behind Navy for the final playoff spot.
The Mountain Hawks are coming off two tough home losses to Bucknell and Colgate. Lehigh played one of its best games of the season against the Raiders, but was unable to hold on for the win. Despite the loss, Maurer knows her team is capable of hanging with teams in the upper echelon of the league.
“This time we just want to play the new 'Lehigh Volleyball' as demonstrated in our match with Colgate last weekend,” said Maurer. “The team really came together and left everything on the floor. It was great to see us executing our offense so well, and our defense was relentless. It was the best our team has come out of the gates all year, and we hope to carry that energy into this weekend.”
This will be the 68th meeting all-time between the schools, dating back to their first match-up in 1974. Lehigh holds a commanding edge in the series, leading 40-27, including 22-12 since Patriot League play began in 1990.
Friday night’s game can be heard live at 7 p.m. on Lehighsports.com with streaming audio content provided by Yahoo! Sports.
