UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The success of last weekend’s tournament could not quite carry over to the first match of the Penn State Classic for the Mountain Hawks as they were defeated by Miami (Ohio) 3-0 at the Recreation Building on Friday evening. Game scores were 30-13, 30-20 and 30-19. The loss now drops Lehigh to 0-11 for the season while Miami improves to 4-7.
Lehigh had to contend with a tough RedHawk offense as Miami had a .519 hitting percentage in the first game. Miami continued to put up impressive hitting numbers in both team and individual standings. The RedHawks had an overall hitting percentage of .371 for the match and had two players record double-figured kills. Emily Schroeder had a game high 15 kills en route to a .636 hitting percentage while teammate Carli Reihman had 10 kills.
Holding down the Mountain Hawk defense were seniors Cassidy Maumus and senior Michelle Schwendenmann. Maumus had a game-high nine digs while Schwendenmann totaled seven. Freshman Mo McReynolds led Lehigh’s offense with five kills.
The Mountain Hawks will return for their second game of the classic on Saturday morning at 10:00 am when they take on host No. 2 Penn State. Later in the day, Lehigh will face Tennessee State at 4:00 pm.
