Lehigh looks back at 2005 season at banquet

This year’s Eugene M. ’35 and Harriet Henry volleyball banquet was held on Sunday, March 26 at the
Junior Michelle Schwendenmann received the Athlete of the Year Award, which is presented to the team member who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishments of the team. A second team All-Patriot League selection, Schwendenmann averaged 3.77 kills per game to lead the Mountain Hawks and place fifth in the Patriot League. She also contributed 25 service aces and 168 digs. Schwendenmann saved her best for late in the season, where she reached double-digit kills in 11 of 12 matches and recorded six double-doubles on the year.
The Scholar-Athlete Award goes to the student-athlete who in the eyes of his/her teammates exemplifies the ideal of the scholar-athlete. On Sunday, senior Nikky Barnes was honored with the award. Barness earned a 3.54 GPA in the fall 2005 semester, majoring in molecular biology. A team co-captain, Barnes appeared in 86 games compiling 120 kills and 179 digs.
Junior Cassidy Maumus was the recipient of this year’s Coaches Award at the banquet, which is presented to the individual who made significant contributions to the well being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement, or special leadership. Maumus established herself as one of the top defensive players in the Patriot League averaging 4.25 digs per game, while also serving as the Mountain Hawks’ vocal and emotional leader both on and off the court.
