Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh University’s women’s volleyball team has announced the signing of three student-athletes for the fall of 2003.
Joining head coach Patrick Nicholas’ squad will be Allison Jack, Nicole Tingos, and Michelle Schwendenmann. Jack comes to Lehigh from Vacaville, California, Tingos is a Burr Ridge, Illinois native, and Schwendenmann hails from Cincinnati, Ohio.
Jack, a 5-8" setter, played her high school ball at Vacaville High School and also was a member of the highly successful Delta Valley Volleyball Club. During her senior year, Jack’s team finished 30-6 and won the San-Joaquin Sectional Title. Her squad also was ranked within in the top 50 of the California volleyball rankings. She was a first team All League, All City Sacramento Area, and averaged more than 10 assists and three digs per game.
"Allison is an outstanding setter," said head coach Patrick Nicholas. "She has quick feet, very good hands, and is a very competitive player. She is going to be a great addition to our team."
Tingos is a 5-10" outside hitter/defensive specialist. As a senior at Hinsdale South Side High School Tingos led her team in kills and was named to the All Tournament team at the Lincoln Way Tournament. Tingos also was a member of the GLC Select Volleyball Club.
"Nicole is going to immediately bring enthusiasm and personality to the team," said Nicholas. "I am very impressed with her work ethic and eagerness to learn and improve."
Schwendenmann stands 5-10" and will be looked at as a front row player for coach Nicholas' squad. Her high school squad won its District Championship before falling in the Regional Semi-Finals. She led her club team to the top spot in the Ohio Valley Regional National Qualifier, while also earning numerous tournament and academic awards.
“Michelle is a great addition to the team," noted Nicholas. "She is going to be a very physical front row player. She has good athletic and jumping ability. Her overall skills are raw, but she can give us depth in the middle, and she is flexible enough to move around the front row."
The Mountain Hawks completed the 2002 season 21-13 and advanced to the Patriot League finals where they were defeated by American 3-1. Jack and Tingos look to serve as the heir apparent to departing seniors Rochelle Healea and Samantha Stahl.
