Lehigh ends season with 3-1 loss

Washington, DC – In a hard fought Patriot League final, Lehigh fell to American 3-1 Saturday at Bender Arena. The Mountain Hawks kept the score close, leading numerous times, before relenting to the Eagles. With the win American improves 26-6, while Lehigh concludes its season with a 21-13 mark. The loss also marks the first time a Lehigh squad has been defeated in the league finals.
Rochelle Healea and Jeannette Singleton paced the Mountain Hawks in both kills and digs, while Lisa Furusawa was the match leader in assists. Samantha Stahl and Morgan Volkart were the top blockers for the Mountain Hawks as well.
For American, tournament MVP Natacha Cornaz and Judit Szekelyhidi led the way in kills, while Courtney Mulford paced American in the assists department.
"We fought hard today," said senior Rochelle Healea. "We were so close, we should have beaten them. They are a good team, but we play so hard. I am proud of my teammates."
Lehigh ends its 2002 with a 21-13 record, and becomes the only team in the league to hold American under 23 points in a game this season.
