Lehigh upset by Army 3-2

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh was upended by league rival Army Saturday evening 3-2, dropping its season record to 18-10 overall, 9-2 in league play. With the victory Army improves to 11-15 overall, 5-6 in league play. Lehigh went back and forth with Army, dropping game one 30-26, winning game two 30-28, falling in game three 30-18, and winning game four 30-20. With everything on the line Army stepped up and put the Brown & White away 15-9 in game five. The loss is the first for the Mountain Hawks since a 3-0 loss to American roughly two weeks ago.
Leading the way for Lehigh was Jeannette Singleton. The sophomore from Claremont, California managed 15 kills, two service aces, and five digs in the loss. Rochelle Healea posted 14 kills, while teammate Lisa Furusawa tallied 44 assists. Three-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week Morgan Volkart notched five block-assists as well for the Mountain Hawks.
For Army, Rachel Travis paced the way with 16 kills. Travis was equaled by Caitlin Machon who also totaled 16 kills along with 11 digs. Abby Casciato posted 45 assists, while Martha Brabec and Travis each tallied six block-assists.
"We got totally dominated tonight," said head coach Patrick Nicholas. "We had a scouting report on Army but didn’t seem to follow it real well tonight," Nicholas added. "Army is a good team and they played hard. I don’t want to take anything away from them, but we did not play up to our potential this evening."
Lehigh returns to action on Friday at Navy. Match time is 7:00 p.m.
