Bethlehem, PA - Lehigh faced off against league foe Colgate Saturday night at Grace Hall and upended the Raiders 3-1. With the win Lehigh improves to 10-8 overall, 2-0 in Patriot League play while Colgate falls to 2-12 overall, 1-1 in Patriot League play. Lehigh dropped game one 30-26 before rebounding to win games two, three, and four 30-23, 32-30, and 30-20.
Leading the way for the Mountain Hawks was Jeanette Singleton. The junior from Claremont, CA notched match highs with 23 kills and 16 digs. Rochelle Healea tallied 18 kills and 14 digs while setter Lisa Furusawa managed 45 assists. In the blocks department, Lehigh was well represented. The team tallied 20 total blocks as freshman Morgan Volkart led the way with six block-assists. Teammate Katie Dukatz notched five block-assists while freshman Rebecca Gawronski added one solo block along with three block-assists.
"Again we started slowly," noted head coach Patrick Nicholas. "I was pleased with the play of Rebecca (Gawronski) as well as our team blocking," added Nicholas. "One thing that we must do better is getting ready to play right away. I think that starts with our pre-game routine. Things may have to change."
Lehigh returns to action on the road, Friday at Army. Match time is 7:00 p.m. and can be heard live on the Lehigh website at www.lehigh.edu.
