Proceeds from the event will go to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association, part of Lehigh’s attempt to help fight ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease
“We’ve had a few former athletes who have or had ALS,” said Roseann Corsi, public relations coordinator for the athletic department. “Our student athletes put it at the top of the list for this event.”
The 1141 people who turned out far surpassed the previous high of about 700. Breakfast was served from
“It’s an amazing turnout,” said Andrew Smith, co-chair of the C.O.A.C.H. program and a junior on the Lehigh baseball team. “It’s great to see all the students and student athletes who came out for this.”
“This is one of the best efforts, we’ve gotten so much support,” said Kristi Spittle a senior on the track and field team. “There aren’t many other events on campus that can draw this many students.”
As of Thursday morning, over four thousand dollars had been raised to combat ALS and checks are still coming in for larger orders of the brown bands.
“The turnout is the best ever,” Corsi said. “Everyone wants to be a part of it because the disease hits so many people at home.”
