Statement from the Patriot League Presidents and Superintendents
Â
"The Patriot League Presidents and Superintendents appreciate and support the attention Congress is giving to the challenges facing college athletics. For nearly four decades, the Patriot League has championed an educational model in which athletics is integrated into the broader academic experience.Â
Â
We are encouraged by the provisions of the Protect College Sports Act that support greater continuity in the student-athlete experience, particularly those related to transfer and academic and athletic eligibility. The educational value of collegiate athletics is strengthened when students have the opportunity to develop lasting relationships with teammates, coaches, faculty, and their campus communities.Â
Â
At the same time, important issues remain unresolved, including the critical question of employment status. We look forward to continuing to work with members of Congress as legislation is finalized to ensure Patriot League student-athletes receive opportunities and protections that reflect both their contributions to their institutions and the fundamentally educational character of their collegiate experiences. "Â
