BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head football coach Andy Coen has announced the addition of Trey Brown to the coaching staff.  Brown will serve as Lehigh’s new offensive coordinator as well as coach the quarterbacks.

Brown replaces former offensive coordinator Chris Rorke, who has resigned to accept a similar position at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.  Although encouraged to stay by Coen, Rorke has decided to return to his New England roots, and be closer to his family.

“I am very excited to have Trey join our staff,” said Coen.  “During our time together [at Penn], he has shown a clear understanding of not only the passing game, but the run package as well.”

Brown joins the Lehigh staff after spending the last five seasons as an offensive assistant under Andy Coen at Penn.  After spending a year coaching the Quakers’ tight ends, Brown spent the next four years working with Penn’s wide receivers.  During his stint in Philadelphia, the Quakers posted a 40-9 record, winning a pair of Ivy League championships.

At Penn, Brown directly worked with Rob Milanese and two-time all-Ivy League selection Danny Castles.  Milanese, a four-time All-Ivy League selection, remains Penn’s all-time leader in receiving yards (3,409).  Castles left Penn as the Quakers’ all-time leader in touchdown receptions (27), while finishing second all-time at Penn in receiving yards (2,444) and third in receptions (167).

“Trey is a great teacher, and an excellent recruiter, who had a strong relationship with our student-athletes [at Penn],” Coen explained.  “The Lehigh players will enjoy having Coach Brown as a part of our staff.”

Brown inherits a Lehigh offense that led the Patriot League in scoring, passing, and total offense in 2005.  He will work closely with returning quarterback Sedale Threatt, who will be a junior in 2006.  Threatt led the league in passing efficiency and threw 12 touchdowns passes a season ago.

Prior to his arrival at Penn, Brown spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Stanford.  Brown was part of the 1999 staff named the coaching staff of the year by the Pacific-10 conference after that squad captured a Pac-10 title.  The Cardinal boasted an offense that was recognized in the top ten nationally, and the team appeared in the Rose Bowl Game in 2000.

A native of Longmont, Colo., Brown earned his bachelor’s in marketing at the University of Colorado in 1993.  He added a master’s in sports administration from Saint Mary’s College (Calif.) in 2003.

Brown and his wife, Lea, will relocate to the Lehigh Valley from their current home in Philadelphia.
