Men's Soccer loses heartbreaker to archrival

EASTON, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s soccer team lost its first league game Saturday night to its archrival Lafayette 1-0 in overtime. After battling it out for 90 minutes neither team could get one on the board and the Leopards were able to get the game-winning goal in the sixth minute of the overtime period. With the loss the Mountain Hawks are now 5-3-2 on the season and 1-1 in league play.

 

Lafayette junior Justin Kamine got the only goal of the game when he put a loose ball past Lehigh keeper Jonathan Nydell for his first goal of the season.

 

Lehigh was able to fire off five shots in the first half and the Mountain Hawk defense held Lafayette to zero in the half.

 

Overall the Mountain Hawks outshot their rivals 13-4 in the match, but they couldn’t find the back of the net. This was the seventh shutout of the season for Lafayette who raises its record to 7-2-1 on the season.

 

Lafayette senior keeper Philip Nelson made six big saves in the victory. Lehigh freshman Austin Decker led the team with six overall shots.

 

Lehigh will return to action Tuesday night when it hits the road to do battle with in-state foe Pennsylvania at 7:30 p.m.
