After a slow first 20 minutes, the Mountain Hawks grabbed their first lead of the season in the 20:48 mark as Ingal scored from the right of the cage for her first career goal. Five minutes later, Lehigh used a well-executed penalty corner to extend its lead to 2-0 as sophomore Lauren Cawley scored on a drive, with junior Lindsay Smith and senior Kara Zweizig assisting on the score.
Early in the second half Bryant pulled within a goal as Elise Boissoneau drove in from the left side and slid the ball past sophomore goalkeeper Lilia Stefaniwsky to make it 2-1 Lehigh.
Ingal struck again in the 52nd minute, this time shooting into an open cage off a rebound to put the Mountain Hawks up by two once again. Five minutes later, Lehigh tacked on an insurance goal as junior Kelly Fox scored on a feed from senior Kalynn Davies.
In addition to Lehigh’s 22-6 shot advantage, the Mountain Hawks owned a 5-3 edge in penalty corners. Each of Lehigh’s sophomore goalkeepers played a half in the cage and both Jessica Miller and Stefaniwsky recorded two saves. Mawema Kundayi did her part to keep the Bulldogs close, stopping 12 Lehigh shots.
“This is exactly what we needed after the first two games,” said Lehigh head coach Julie Mazer. “We moved the ball well and were able to finish today, so I’m pleased, but we still have a lot of work today.”
The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Wednesday when they wrap up a three game homestand against the Princeton Tigers. Game time is set for 7 p.m. from the Ulrich Sports Complex and all the action can be seen live on Lehighsports.com with streaming powered by Yahoo! Sports College Broadcast.
